Profile

Dr. Zhigang Qi

Dr. Zhigang Qi, receiving his Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from McGill University (Canada) in 1996, is a Co-founder and the Chief Technology Officer of Innoreagen Power Technology Co., Ltd., a company focusing on the R&D&D of fuel cells located in Beijing, China. As a leading scientist in nearly 30 years at H Power (USA), Plug Power (USA), MTI Micro Fuel Cells (USA) and three Chinese companies, he has solved a series of key technical challenges facing the fuel cell industry, and some of his initiative work such as microporous layer, modification of catalysts, H2/air boundary’s formation and control, enhancing lifetime of stacks and fuel cell systems, operating fuel cells without external humidification, accelerating stack’s activation process, and unassisted cold start of fuel cells, have been widely used in the industry. He led his team create world records of achieving 331-minute’s continuous flight of fuel cell powered unmanned aircrafts and stack unassisted cold start at -52 ℃。He has had 88 issued patents, published a monograph , and given over 90 invited presentations worldwide. As the chief scientist he led and finished over 10 federal and provincial fuel cell projects. He is the convenor of AG1 adversary group, and the convenor of MT 101 and WG 304 working groups of IEC TC 105. He led or participated in the drafting of more than 50 fuel cell standards and received the 2021 IEC “1906 Award”. He is a member of about 10 scientific committees.
